TL1926
A rarely assembled suite of gilt bronze and gilt ‘Sheffield’ candelabra and candlesticks
for a formal dining table. They relate to another early 19th century baroque suite in gilt ‘Sheffield’ that I also enjoyed at home for years and, though English, partly came from
Charles de Beistegui’s exquisite Chateau de Groussay (and previously appear in photographs of his equally renowned Le Corbusier designed penthouse apartment on the Champs Elysses).
Here the suite is part English and part French, but all of the same model and dating
from the Regency, George IV and William IV periods, when 18th century French baroque
metalwork was the height of fashion in London following the flow of treasures from
France after the revolution.
The heights on the candlesticks are 33 cm and the candelabra are 57 cm x 35 cm
