A truly fabulous pair of late eighteenth century Tuscan giltwood sphinxes. Beautifully sculpted with really expressive gusto and in superb original condition. Seemingly originally intended as sculptural supports for a very grand scale (but possibly quite plain) mantelpiece mirror, these alone hold their own. c.1790s
