CV101 (PAIR)

Superb and monumental pair of Louis Philippe period Bayeux porcelain chinoiserie vases, over two and a half feet high and worthy of the Brighton Pavilion.

Each vase has a boldly ribbed lotus form top and base with scrolling Chinese style handles. The palette is generally Cantonese but bolder, each having a reserve panel of scattered chinoiseries to one side and a bold flower and rock design to the other.

None of my colleagues have ever seen such a large pair of Bayeux vases, including Frenchmen who particularly buy Bayeux. Restoration to the base on both, where original firing cracks (typical for pieces of this challenging scale) had opened up.

These are emphatically not copies of Chinese, but rather bravura excercises in the chinoiserie style.
