A pair of Empire period ‘Roman’ tripod candelabrum form lamp bases, very comfortably attributable to Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843), the most prominent bronzier in Paris at the time, and noted supplier to Napoleon. The distinctive lower elements, including the particularly strongly modeled paw feet and rinceaux, are of a model designed and sculpted by Thomire himself and used by him for various tazzas and candelabra. c. 1815. 99 cm as shown  (the bronze being 71 cm)
