CL027
Extremely rare Venetian 15 light chandelier incorporating the finest Murano glass
work and the finest wrought iron, by or from the circle of Umberto Bellotto (or
Alessandro Mazzucotelli). c. 1915
Bellotto broke new ground in incorporating these two apparently contrasting materials at
the beginning of the 20th century.
However, this chandelier also harks back to the very earliest cathedral chandeliers of
the Byzantine and Mediaeval periods, using lit wicks and oil in multiple glass or pottery
containers, arranged around a suspended ring structure.
